J, you dont get the point..him being a fan or what not its the experience that counts nothing else. the interview says in other words how i felt and i did not play thousands of hours of ff11. one more thing all this time and effort all we get is same type of looking characters, same type of jobs but instead of many they just put all of them in a huge mixer and handed over you few little jobs…Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, Disappointing, ….
]]>If anything, I’d say the armory system that allows you to mix and match abilities is the best thing XIV has going for it right now, although as it’s been said the downside is it could lead to one dominate build when it comes to endgame. Still, it’s pretty cool that I can play as a Lancer and toss out spells, or play as Conjurer and knock mobs around with some weaponskills.
There are a few issues not brought up. The targeting system is pretty awful, and the sluggish UI complete with unnecessarily awkward menus compounds the problem. There’s no good search function to find parties, and you need to be face-to-face with someone to add them. Just a lot of little issues that seem to hint the game wasn’t quite ready for release.
I’m not quite sure why a certain segment of XIV fans seem personally offended when something negative is said about XIV. I’ve still got the first FF game on my NES, I wanted XIV to be the next big MMO just as much as anyone else, and I’m probably going to stick with it in hopes that it’ll improve. But I don’t feel it necessary to personally insult people who disagree, nor are my Garlond Goggles tinted so deeply rose that I’ll try to deny the legitimate issues brought up.
Anyway, good conversation, and I’d say it’s mostly fair compared to my own experience. XIV is not broken beyond repair, there’s potential there, hopefully SE takes note of people’s complaints and continues to improve on the foundation they’ve built. I really think that, given an expansion pack or two, XIV will end up being pretty solid.
]]>I’m not sure what you expected here. Did you miss the word “conversations” in the topic? I provided a platform for one man’s opinion. I did not invent this opinion; it would have existed (in complete obscurity) without any help from me. As a curiosity, I spent some time reading reviews on Amazon.co.jp (the Japanese version) for the regular version of FF14. I found no difference in tone.
I’d love to interview people who are not my friends. I made a conscious decision to start with friends because I cultivate friends with strong opinions. I just find the idea that I led this into a negative reply baffling. He’s played these games. That formed his reply, not me.
]]>While I am wholly convinced FFXIV has problems that need to be ironed out, your “interview” serves only to set up for a nostalgic roadtrip for a FFXI addict. Maybe next time you could talk to someone who is a) not your friend, b) not addicted to another game to the point of preoccupation, c) without leading them into a negative reply with poorly written questions and absolutely hamfisted personal praise (seriously, get a room), d) someone who has actually played the game enough to know that mechanics do exist (auto run is R on a keyboard, and it is on the joystick). All of these things will lead to you having a little more credibility that is slightly above a hooters waitress saying it’s all about the wings.
]]>I totally agree that there is absolutely no community feeling in FFXIV, it just feels very bland and empty. As far as questing, it is non-existent. The closest thing to a quest is a guildleve. A pointless system that gives you a paragraph of storyline crammed into a hidden log sending you to some floating crystal that instructs you to kill some monsters over and over again. The monsters don’t even have relative placement, they are just, ‘there’. “Why am I doing this again?”
I played FFXI for the long stretch myself, I don’t see FFXIV being able to repeat or create new instances similar to all of those great times. Checking back on PS3 release, though I don’t expect much.
Thanks for the honest review.
