This Episode Rocked. Really. It Did.
I am now completely sold on this anime.
Details after the spoiler space, but this was great, great stuff, and I wouldn’t come even close to comparing the first two episodes with it.
show
Here’s basically how it went down.
Our main character gets invited to this rich chick’s yacht. Not only is the rich chick one of the dom outfit girls of the comic book-ish “evil organization,” Kiraboshi (Glittering Star) but her maid is, too, which makes them secret rivals as well as “allies.” Word’s been put out that the man to actually take our main character Takuto down will become the new leader of Kiraboshi; and, since its whole point is to get those giant robots that operate in a sort of shadow time to come into the real world to really change things, that’s offering a lot of power to the man in charge – and the woman who sleeps in his bed. Hint, hint.
Of course, this requires actually defeating Takuto, the Galaxy Bishounen. (I just love the ring of that phrase…)
So, with Takuto no idea who he’s facing, a broom fencing duel during cleaning duties on the yacht (what, you thought the school kids were on-board for free?) turns into a duel with shinai, kendo training swords and very much wooden and non-lethal. The opponent, a servant of Kanako Watanabe (the green-haired girl), is a master Japanese fencer and, had he been fully serious, could’ve done serious bodily harm to the completely over-matched Takuto. Takuto even tries using a shinai with one hand like a European longsword; two-handed fighting overpowers him badly.
So, egged on by blond assistant Simone Aragon, our servant, Takashi Dai, challenges the Galaxy Bishounen in his “Cybody” (our equivalent of giant robots here, mere giant dolls in the “real” world). Takuto clues in who he’s facing and is, as in regular life, completely overwhelmed. It seems like the Galaxy Bishounen will face a bitter end here…
…and then he pulls out his other sword.
That’s right. The Galaxy Bishounen is a nitou ryuu (二刀流) user, that is, he uses two swords at the same time. THAT is why he sucked so badly with one sword against traditional kendo style swordsmanship, with two hands on the hilt.
So, put very simply, Takuto pulls out the second Star Sword and goes Miyamoto Musashi on Takashi’s rear end.
I was cheering the whole time.
Review: 5 of 5. A clear plot, more good looks at sexy girl characters, a fine fight with a satisfying ending.
Oh and, we’re not seeing the last of the loser of this fight, it would seem. This is a good thing. He’s tough and good. Permanent early retirement does not suit him.
